Prerana, based in Mumbai, works to end second generation prostitution and to protect women and children from the threats of human trafficking.
Prerana supports victims of human trafficking by defending their rights and dignity while providing education and access to health services. For those mothers unable to give up prostitution for economic reasons, Prerana offers the option of taking care of their children outside the red light district in healthy, long term residential care centres offering real education for development.
Prerana’s path breaking interventions against human trafficking empowers women and children to realize a dignified life where they are free to make informed choices without feeling judged, exploited or endangered in any way.
Since 1989, over 7,500 women and children have been protected, supported, and reintegrated into mainstream society through Prerana programs.
