Nutritional Status Enhancement of Severely Malnourished Children
On 8th November, the East Bali Poverty Project (EBPP) health team started their November home visit program for malnourished children, continuing to provide assistance for families and children with nutritional problems with very encouraging results of two previously severely malnourished infants from Ban Village whose nutritional status had improved to become moderately malnourished.
Tika is a 20 month old girl who was born with Down Syndrome and had a lung infection early in life. She has a poor immune system which affects her growth process. EBPP has been assisting her since June 2020 and for the first time, she had not been sick in a month, which indicates the strengthening of her immune system.
Wika is a 4-year-old boy who’s been severely malnourished since he was 18 months old due to poor diet and frequent illness. EBPP has been assisting this child for almost 3 years and educating his parents on balanced meals and food portion sizes. Recently, the family has seen behavioural changes. Wika has no been ill and has settled to a balanced diet - resulting in a stronger immune system.
EBPP is very excited to share this good news, and even though their nutritional problems are not fully resolved, with these improvements, the EBPP field team and these families feel more optimistic that their shared continued effort will soon result in these children achieving normal nutrition status. Keep up the great work EBPP!
