One of YKIP's graduates shares their touching story

The touching story of I Made Agus Suyasa, who received a scholarship from our grantee, YKIP, to continue his education and also attend vocational training, demonstrates how the support these children receive is not only impactful, but also life changing. This is his story in his words:

“I received a scholarship from YKIP when I was in senior high school, but allow me to tell you the story prior to that time.

I was a very innocent child from a happy family. I didn’t know what the meaning of struggle and the hardship of life was, as my parents were always by my side. Then, something happened that changed my life forever. When I was in grade 5, someone that I respected and a role model to me - my father - passed away... For two years after the loss, I was unable to let it go. I knew that the loss had affected me mentally... I always felt inferior, until I decided to quit school. The decision was indeed a mistake and it affected my life forever. I regretted that decision, but I believe that everything happens for a purpose. A year after that, I decided to continue my education in SMP Blahbatuh. At that time, I got a scholarship from YKIP. My mental condition is getting better, I can get along with people and I accepted the loss. I got good marks at school. It was all because of the support of YKIP. My mother said to me that without the scholarship, she might not be able to send me to school. She is only a tailor, and the support we received helped me to finish my studies in junior high school.

Finishing my high school, I decided to take part in YKIP’s Vocational Program selection. I applied in AKN Gianyar, and I passed the test. I was in the 26th place out of 280 students. I felt happy and my mother was also proud of me and she never imagined that I could have a year training in AKN. During my studies under the vocational program, I worked in Prapen Silver Art Shop as a guide. I explained to the guests the process of making silver accessories. Then it was time to have on the job training. I quit my job and focused on training in Wapa Di Ume Resort & Spa’s housekeeping department because I wanted to have new experiences. I should have been there for 6 months, but due to the pandemic, after a month and a half, the hotel closed. During pandemic, I studied online and prepared my final report and exam. I graduated with the GPA 3.61. I am really happy and proud of myself. The last step was graduation, which took place on September 2nd, 2020. I am grateful for what I got. Everything that happened to me is because of the support from you through YKIP. This is not the end of my journey, this is the new beginning to reach the real success. I am thankful for all the support you have given to me. “
